According to the text in the menu, Dishoom was set up in order to recreate the old Iranian cafés of Bombay. They were meeting places for this huge community who included rich and poor, industrialists and working class. At these cafés, they were all welcome. So is everybody here in London, so much o that you may have to wait for a table at peak times (they don’t take reservations unless you are a group of 6 or over).

Open from breakfast to dinner, you can have a chance to try the delicious Indian food prepared here. The atmosphere is relaxed and really makes you feel like in India, with old pictures on the wall and a very good soundtrack which they sell as a CD or vinyl (you can also listen to their Spotify playlist).

The Bhang Lassi is my favorite (without rum though) and the black dal (richly flavored lentils) with the Chicken Tikka is a trip to India and back. I also had the Prawn Koliwada once (crispy prawns with tamarind sauce – good) and the Paneer and Mango salad (curd cheese, mango and green leaves – very good). The Murgh Malai (chicken steeped overnight in garlic, ginger, coriander and a little cream) is another great choice.
