Gyeonbokgung Palace 경복궁

종로구 사직로 161
161 Sajik-ro, Jongno-gu

Daily except Tuesday, from 9am to 5pm or 6pm depending on the season.

Gyeonbokgung Palace, built in 1395, was the seat of power of the Joseon dynasty in Korea. Its name means “palace greatly blessed by Heaven” and is one of the most beautiful ancient palaces in Asia. During the centuries it has grown, parts of it have been destroyed, others rebuilt, but it has remained a focus of the Korean spirit and national identity. It is a massive area, with temples, gates, bridges and museums. The ceremony of the changing of the guard happens daily on the hour from 10am to 3pm. It is very colorful and the costumes look impressive. Plan your visit for a nice sunny day and avoid going during the freezing winter months as it gets awfully cold and windy.
