Basilica di San Pietro in Vincoli

Piazza di San Pietro in Vincoli 4A

April to September: daily from 8am to 12:30pm and from 3pm to 7pm
October to March: daily from 8am to 12:30pm and from 3pm to 6pm

The Basilica di San Pietro in Vincoli  was founded in the 5th century to preserve a holy relic; the string that tied St. Peter’s body when he was arrested in Jerusalem. In addition to the string, you can admire one of the most beautiful sculptures by Michelangelo: Moses, from 1515. Legend says that when he finished the sculpture he said ”perche non parli?” (why can’t you talk?) since the work was so perfect that just needed to speak to be real.
