Jim Thompson House

6 Soi Kasemsan 2, Rama 1 Road | Siam

Daily from 9am to 6pm
The visit is with a guided tour

Jim Thompson was an American who ended up in Thailand back in the 1940s and fell in love for the country. He was the one responsible for setting up the famous Oriental Hotel and the first Western to realize the potential of tourism in Asia with the advent of air travel after the Second World War. His other venture in business was the foundation of the Jim Thompson Silk Company that still exists today and has shops in various Bangkok malls and at the airport duty free. He was an architect and lived in the middle of Bangkok in a collection of houses designed from different Thai styles. In 1967 he went hiking in Malaysia and mysteriously disappeared.

Despite being in the middle of the city, a few blocks away from the National Stadium, Jim Thompson House feels miles away from a city, with lush vegetation and the klong, or canal, nearby. It is a really nice place to visit to get the feel for a more traditional Thailand and to learn more about this amazing character that was Jim Thompson.
