Tate Modern

Bankside SE1 9TG | South London

Daily from 10am to 6pm (Friday and Saturday until 10pm)

The Tate has changed the Southbank and turned the focus of the city to its riverbanks. It is a mammoth structure where a power station used to generate electricity and pollution. Now there are blockbuster art exhibitions, an impressive permanent collection and a new wing, the Switch House, not only an architectural masterpiece but an important addition to this art cathedral that attracts around 5 million visitors each year. One of the nicest walks in London is along the Southbank, from Westminster Bridge, near the London Eye, all the way to Tower Bridge, passing through the culturally rich Southbank Centre, the Tate, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and the famous Tower.
