One of the most commented architectural works in Rome is the MAXXI, designed by Zaha Hadid and opened in 2009. MAXXI is Rome’s 21st century art museum for the contemporary arts. The impressive construction has wavy forms, zigzagging geometry, ramps and stairs that intertwine. Zaha’s project was chosen between 273 candidates. Her proposal convinced the jury thanks to its capacity to integrate the city with the innovative architecture. The full height atrium serves at the meeting point, giving way to the galleries, café, shops and auditorium. From the outside, the place is also mesmerizing. You can sit on a bench over a coffee to admire some of the artwork around the garden and the out-of-the-ordinariness of Hadid’s architecture.
